A Bridge. A Cheesy Bridge.

I'm waiting for the inevitable critical re-examination of The Babys.

I liked The Babys. I still do. They're easy to dismiss as goofy lightweights, but really they were the bridge between The Raspberries brand of Power Pop and Hair Metal Balladeers.

OK, maybe that's not the best space to occupy, but I still contend their music stands up. Yeah, it's overproduced. Yes, it's overwrought. OK, the lyrics tend towards goofy. But still...there's a center in there...a center of earnestness.

Shit - it was the early 80s. Everything was up in the air. Imagine being squeezed between the contrary forces of New Wave, commercial appeal and classic rock. You try and make decent music while satisfying all those masters. They walked a tightrope and did some good stuff.
