Obscure Power Pop from Horizontal Brian

Today: a band from the UK who made their one album, and disappeared never to be heard from again. Horizontal Brian released one album in the US on the A&M-distributed Gold Mountain Records [also home at the time to Canadian folkie/activist singer Bruce Cockburn at the time----his 'If I Had A Rocket Launcher' came out around the same time].

The lead cut on their LP was also the single, a salacious little ditty called "Practicing First Aid". This album was in my college radio station's reject pile-----not strange enough, or mainstream enough, depending on who was looking through the pile. I understand that MTV aired a video a few times for it.....probably in the wee hours of the morning, where all the cool stuff was. A piece of wonderful British pop more than worthy of Squeeze or early Blur, the whole album is full of similar gems. And----to my knowledge----it's never seen release on CD. If you see the vinyl, especially for next to nothing, more than likely-----grab it.

The sad thing? These guys are probably now working in boring day jobs and never got to follow up this corker of an album.

Such is life.
