A rare one from Deptford's finest
SQUEEZE. One of the great bands of all time.....to my mind anyway.
I got to spend about 30 minutes with them when they played Dallas in 1980. Great people. Gilson Lavis, their drummer, who was swigging a bottle of whiskey, even said into my friend's tape recorder, "Isn't fucking Dallas wonder-fucking-ful!" Pretty intimidating, especially when said drummer is about 6-1/2 feet tall!
If you're not familiar with them.....think of the song "Tempted", a now-lite-rock staple sang by one-album member [and future singer for Mike and the Mechanics] Paul Carrack. ["Tempted by the fruit of another...."]which was featured in the movie Reality Bites.
Here's a song by them that has seemingly bypassed every odds-n-sods reissue of theirs for the last fifteen years or so. It was a song which Difford and Tillbrook gifted to Rockpile [Nick Lowe & Dave Edmunds] for their one eponymous LP, a ditty called "Wrong Again," which details the pitfalls and foibles of working musicians in that smart-aleck way that only Difford and Tillbrook could. This was released on an A&M "new wave" compilation called Propaganda..... but only made it to the UK version of the album [being replaced in the US by a previously released track]. [It's most likely an outtake from their current album at the time, Cool For Cats.]
Enjoy!
