The Bevverly Brothers, aka Nick and Dave

First off: Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds are co-God as far as I'm concerned. And Rockpile was one of the best damn bands to ever hit this planet. [Even if Seconds of Pleasure wasn't quite up to the level of their work on Dave's Tracks on Wax 4 and Nick's Labour of Lust.]

And, speaking of Seconds of Pleasure.....those of you who bought it when it came out [and subsequently bought the CD] may remember a free 4-song EP that came with it entitled "Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds Sing The Everly Brothers". It was an acoustic-guitar treat which had exactly what the wrapper said contained theirin.

However, the tapes kept a'rollin.....with two more songs which didn't see the light of day. They are referred to on the tape as the "Bevverly Brothers"....no doubt a reference to their fondness for adult beverages at the time!

"What Would Look The Best On You [Is Me]" is originally from Dave's Tracks on Wax 4, which has just been reissued----buy it, dammit---- and "I Knew The Bride" was originally from Dave's Get It album, Nick did it on Live Stiffs, and much later recorded a somewhat inferior version with Huey Lewis [Nick having known Huey from his days in Clover, the band who backed Elvis Costello on the Nick-produced My Aim Is True.]

Nick has been quiet since his last LP, Dig My Mood, and Dave has been notoriously quiet since undergoing heart bypass surgery a few years back. And I think both are teetotalers now. How times change.

In honor of the great Rockpile.....listen to these two tunes and hoist a bevvy!
